Should books that have (a substantial amount of) Scots dialogue be included? I'm thinking of authors like Wm McIlvanney, James Kelman, Irvine Welsh etc.

Personally I think not, but I completely understand if someone else did include such authors.

The way I see it is if Waterstones had a "Scots language" department, no one would mind if Irvine Welsh, James Kelman and indeed Douglas Stuart were included among other wholly Scots books. But if those writers were held up as examples of Scots writing without including any other wholly Scots books I would be a little disappointed.

Much as I'd like to see more books written entirely in Scots, I think it's useful to reflect on the utility of such a catalogue. If it's for the promotion of Scots language / literature, then I think not including authors like Welsh would be a missed open goal.
